In my last post  The Art Of Self Branding, I wrote about my own journey in developing the “The Artistic Affiliate” to promote what I do and offer.

In this post I’m going to dive a little deeper and give you more direction if this is something you’re struggling with.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_accordion collapsible=”yes” disable_keyboard=”” style=”accordion” accordion_border_radius=”100″ active_tab=”1″][vc_accordion_tab title=”Avoid Doing What Everyone Else Is Doing Or Writing About” title_color=”#22c6d8″ background_color=”#fcfcfc” title_tag=”h3″][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][vc_column_text]I know, this is hard to do.  But absolutely possible. With so much competition on the internet, getting “eyeballs” to view your content – your message is indeed challenging, yet possible.

Your Course with Lesly

How.. well let’s see …

  • Learn from what you see. Take notes on what you like, and dislike
  • Ask the question: How would you present this content differently reflecting your style of communication?
  • Check the Alexa ranking of the website you’re looking at and remember, there are over 6 million, perhaps in the billions by now, blogs/websites, where many are ignored (decreasing the competition)
  • Increase your blog’s ranking: Post a minimum 1x a week, and join a blogging community

So WHY write about something that you could really care less about! ?

For many starting out online with a new blog they’ll push themselves to do this and worse – copy and paste information on their blogs as if it were their own. Bad, bad, bad idea. Do NOT do this.

There are ways to help you find content. But ALWAYS write about something that interests you. You’ll be more motivated, inspired, and eager  to maintain your blog.

  •  What really gets your “mojo” going? What do you like teaching others about? What gets you excited? What’s happened in your life that you want to tell others about and learn from?
  • Research your passion
  • Report on your passion
  • How can you teach it?

Remember this, not everyone will do the work that you’ll do to create an awesome blog – sharing your interests in an authentic way. THIS will immediately set you apart!

Was it still there when you were 10? Did it crop up every now and then when you were 20? #0? And so on?

Why is the saying “Gone full circle” carry so much weight? Well because it means going back to that passion you had “X” amount of years ago.

How is it so many become lawyers, doctors, etc., and leave their jobs to do what they always dreamed of later in life?

That “thing” that keeps cropping up is what you want to grab and nurture and write about[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How Does My Interest Connect To Marketing” title_color=”#23dae0″ background_color=”#efefef” title_tag=”h3″][vc_column_text]Here comes the tricky part, right? Marketing. All marketing is, is the method you use to get people to know about you and what you’re doing. Without marketing there would be no flow of business, no reviews, no TV, movies to watch, no awesome shopping sales, etc.

Marketing is a natural part of spreading the word. You do it naturally anyway … when was the last time you told someone about a great book you read? A movie you saw? THAT’S marketing. There are many strategies for online marketing: video, email, email newsletters, webinars, podcasts, blogging, ebooks, Ads, creating your own groups on social media.. and so on.

The  method you choose would contain YOUR content. Now affiliate marketing is a way to learn about product creation, marketing online, etc. Because I’m going to guess that eventually you’d like to create your own product to sell online instead of promoting other people’s products , right?

So the question is : How will you tell others about you?

  • Create an email newsletter
  • Write an ebook to give away and build a mailing list
  • Create videos
  • Do webinars, Hangouts
  • Create a group on social media
  • Create a radio show

All of this helps to build the infamous “know, Like, Trust” factor which is absolutely imperative in building online relationships and attracting potential customers.

Now to step it up a notch – research it more, be more curious about it. It will lead you to greater knowledge and insights about it and will “position” you to be an authority about it!

Never be afraid to learn more of what you don’t know or try new things that relate to your interests. I always think of George Plimpton, a journalist starting out in his career, became an  author, who also became famous because he experimented with life and various professions. Lots of great little insights and nuggets in this video ..[/vc_column_text][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/SkatvkE8Zpw”][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][/vc_accordion_tab][/vc_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][vc_separator align=”align_center” type=”transparent” position=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]I think these 5 Self-Branding directives will help you immensely. Stay true to yourself and remember, there’s NO ONE in the world like you. So if you’re comparing yourself to what other people are doing. Stop it. Everyone has to find their own way, their own voice.

YOU can do it ..

  2. Lesly, I too love what you are doing here on your blog. The site layout, the topics you have chosen, and the direction you have taken are a true reflection of what it means to get to know Lesly Federici! And, you are worth getting to know!

As you know, I am still in process with my own “new direction” so your content has been a big help keeping me on track. Love the directives! <3

  3. Hi Monisha,
Wonderful to see you 🙂 yes, you can only be you.. once you start being like everyone else you lose your own magic. Learn from others, then put your own twist on it … 🙂

  4. Hi Lesly,

Thank you for this wonderful post. I sometimes get wrapped up in what other people are doing and waste time thinking how I can be like them as opposed to thinking how I can be “my best and honest self”…
I also definitely need to keep up with my blogging…

This post has definitely been eyeopening for me- thank you!!

  5. Hi Andy,
Thank you for the complement… yes, focusing on “who” you are, your message is far more unique and interesting and will attract others to you better than if you follow what everyone else does, or try to be like someone else…. always great to see you visiting 🙂

  6. Hi Lawrence..
Wonderful to see you visiting … comparing … can create a lot of self-esteem damage .. and yet we all do it. Hard to stop, but can be done, and when we do stop, the real authentic magic begins …

  7. Hi Emi,
Yes, the people you surround yourself with are just as important and can really make a difference.. always great to see you visiting! Thank you …

  8. Emi says:

    Hi Lesly,
Totally agree with you, we all are very different and unique and branding is very important. It does take some time to figure out where you standing and make sense out of it, so you feel you are at the right place with the right people, but once you do … everything is easy.
    Thank you for great post,
    Have a wonderful day!

  9. Loved the last bit about comparing yourself to others and stop it. That is such a powerful statement that everyone should take away from this. Finding your voice is hard enough without knocking it down with comparing if you are as good as something else.

  10. Lesly

Great post and all very important, it is a great point to be yourself and not just copy others. At the end of the day you can take ideas but people buy from people so they need to buy from you because of you.

    Powerful stuff!

Love the website by the way.

  11. Hi William ,
You are absolutely right. Being consistent with your brand is the visual part of it. The more you dive into how you want to present yourself, your “Theme” the more it will come across to others …

  12. Hi Erika,
You amze me how much you have grown and what you’ve achieved … love visiting your blog. Every thiing in due time. Yes the Alexa ranking is a good, general guide of where you stand in the sea of websites … 🙂

  13. Hey Chery,
Ah .. thank you! My aim is too inspire and if you get any kind of inspiration from visiting here … THAT’S heartwarming to me. Yes, self-branding is important. I look forward to reading and publishing your guest post on PAC.. pretty awesome I think .. much love to you …

  14. Hello Lesly! I just love what you have done here with your blog! Wow everytime I visit I am WOWED! Yeppers it is all about branding HUH?

Thank You so much for all you do. I am thinking this may be a great topic for my PAC article, working on it my friend!! Love Ya! Chery :))

  15. Hi Lesly ,
you are right ,we are all unique and will find our people over time ,
if we are ourselves .Writing about what interests us most ,will
help . And like William said it takes time .
Will find out how interest connects to marketing .
Did not look after alexa ranking a long time .
Thank you for reminding .I like you new site 🙂

  16. Branding is so important. You need to spend time getting it right.. it will take time.. It’s not an instant process. It helps your brand it you use the same image on all social media… twitter..facebook…instagram…whatever your social media use the same image and then people will know they are looking at your stuff and no one else’s 🙂

  17. Hi Kathryn,
Wonderful to see you visiting … glad you found this post interesting and useful .. I’ll be writing more about it.. maybe going more in detail. Numbered lists are great, I usually like them as well as bullets… I found the collapsible feature offered in this theme and no need to use numbers or bullets! Woo hoo! Thank you for your visit and comment, I appreciate it …

  18. Great post. That is something I don’t do, check the Alexa ranking of a site. I think I had a tool bar one time with it. Will check it out. To check my own ranking, I do post at least once a week on my blogs. I keep track of all that I do.
I do take notes, on what I like. I find it helps me to write things out, I understand it more completely.
I have written out your list, I prefer a numbered list.
    1. Explore your personal interests.
    2. Pay attention to what interests keep coming back to me.
    3. How does my interest connect with marketing?
    4. Do my research and be the Go-To- Authority.
I agree self-branding directives help immensely.

  19. Hey Monna,

Trust is very, very important … and that’s what good friends, relationships do – provide a safe haven to go to. My honor and pleasure … and thank you for the complement too . I think this theme I’m using is full of surprises that complement what I’m doing 🙂

  20. Hi Lesly,

It’s as if you wrote this post specifically for me and the conversation we had earlier this morning. You are a very smart lady and a trusted friend.

I love what you are creating here in your “New World”

  21. Hi Brenda,
That is great news! I’m so glad this post has helped you rethink blogging. I know you have lots to say and share .. you are on your way .. I know it. George Plimpton started as a writer and created his own life experiences – those he was interested in knowing about and wrote about them. Follow your heart, it’s the best built in tool you already have …

  22. BG Jenkins says:

Hi Lesly… OK you GRABBED me with the artwork! Great technique. I had to read it. I love this whole idea of what you’re saying because I almost gave up blogging. I didn’t want to write about things that I was interested in anymore. Took about a month and a half break and now I’m trying to find my way. This is very inspiring. Now that I’ve said that…. I’m going back now to watch the video. Thanks so much. Great post.
