Create A Website Welcome Mat

Posted on Posted in How To's

Recently I’ve been noticing several websites are using a visual referred to as a “Welcome Mat”. It’s the first image you see and it often has an opt-in and.or a promotional AD.

Neil Patel

I like the effect. It’s bold, in your face, and elicits an immediate response from the viewer.

Landing Page Builder

So I looked around. Neil Patel offers the “Hello Bar” and this “Welcome Mat” is an option. There’s also Sumome which for $20.00 a month you can create a “Welcome Mat”.

I thought, what do I already have that I could simulate the same thing. Ah HA! I remembered the plugin I have, Instabuilder, and wondered if I could create something similar similar – and it could. Will it have all the “bells and whistles”? No. Bit it has the same feel, I can change it, link it to any page, etc. So I think there’s a lot of flexibility.

I show you how in this video.

Here’s an image of my “Welcome Mat”

  1. Hi Lesly,
Visiting this article for the third time now. Can you tell I like Instabuilder?
Have my new site up now and have used my instabuilder plugin to create a welcome mat. It’s the first thing people see if I give the domain name. The reason for that is to get them on my email list so I offer a report that I created but if they don’t wish to do that right away there is a link that is VERY visible to the rest of the site. Inside if they like what they see they can sign up to my optin. Can really get creative with this and change it anytime. Will be using the stats as well . Thanks again for the cool video.

  2. Another amazing video and concept Lesly. I have been noticing the welcome mats on various sites. It’s a great idea I think.

I appreciate that while you are showing a step-by-step in the video, I like that you discuss the options and then give your opinion, which is important to me. It helps people get to know you and why you have chosen what you have chosen.

    Great job!

    Deborah

  12. Hi Lesly mam
Yeah, this is amazing. I see that instabuilder is also paid, not free.
I thought people are doing this with instapages or leadpages. Wow, you did it. your welcome mat is looking very nice.
Thanks for sharing. Have a great day

  13. Hi Mandy,
Yea, some of them don’t do much, and at times a pain to get out of. But for me it’s a change and a way to put something important up front. We’ll see. I neglected this blog for the other one.. I think this one is more important …. always wonderful to see you visiting …

  14. I like the effect. It’s bold, in your face, and elicits an immediate response from the viewer.

Yes it is and I still would like a 3d or hologram effect

  15. Yes, very cool! Very good tool you have there too. I love this blog, hope your rank goes way up!

So, a welcome mat, I have some difficulty with the ones that don’t really have anything on them, they’re just there because someone thought they would put them there but don’t use them for anything constructive. I’ve seen some that are just a graphic and say ‘to enter the site click here’. I don’t really see the point of that. But I can see the benefit of a good one for sure!

    Enjoy the journey!
